电大即中央广播电视大学以及地方各级广播电视大学，简称“电大”。是以广播、电视、计算机网络等现代传媒技术实施高等教育的大学，主要采取与其他重点大学联合办学（如南开大学、东北财经大学、中国政法大学等），毕业后由中央广播电视大学统一颁发毕业证书，通过联合办学大学的学位要求，由合作大学颁发学位证书。
网络教育学院（俗称网上大学）开展的网络教育以从业人员的继续教育为主，高中起点专科、本科须具备普通高中、职业高中、中等专业学校或职业技术学校毕业证书，专科起点本科须具备国民教育系列的专科或专科以上毕业证书。报读少部分专升本专业需要专科段相同或相近的专业。
